Book Review: Dreams and Visions

Dreams and Visions written by Tom Doyle with Greg Webster is a book about how Jesus is awakening the Muslim world.  I was very interested in reading this book.  I love reading of ways that God is working in other countries.  In each chapter, the author shares different stories of Muslims whom the Lord has chosen to reveal himself to through dreams and visions.

What I liked from the very beginning was a comment that the author made in the pre-face, “The stories in this book, are about real people I know personally or are known by my family’s closest friends in the Middle East.  If we couldn’t verify the experience, we left it out-no Christian fairy tales here.”  I know that some people will still be cynical when approaching this book, but I am very much a believer that God does still reveal himself to people through dreams and visions, especially in countries other than America.  This book was a great reminder to me of how wonderful our freedom of religion is in America.  Doyle reminded me that when these former Muslims commit to Jesus Christ, they are doing so knowing that it could eventually mean they will die because of this committment.

Being a missionary in these countries is not easy either.  I was reminded that while these people have been called to go and share Jesus they have to go about it in a completely different way than anything I’ve ever experienced.  One of my favorite things that the author shared was how these dreams and visions are working.  The people are having the dreams, and many times at the same time God is giving them a vision of a specific person to go and talk to so that all of their questions can be answered.  Another comment that really stuck out to me was this, no one goes to sleep a Muslim, and wakes up a Christian.

Another great reminder to me that while God could use the dreams/visions and answer all of the questions without the help of man, he is choosing to allow the great commission that he gave us to be carried out.  He doesn’t need us to share him, but he loves us so much that he allows us to get to receive the blessings of seeing others come to him.

I received this book in exchange for a review from Booksneeze.  I did not have to leave a positive review to receive the book.
